Concert Preview: Girl Talk @ Mr. Smalls Theatre AND Kinks Katastrophe at 31st St. Pub on Friday May 11th

Tonight is pretty much a music extravaganza at Mr. Smalls when 'local boy does good' Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk performs in Pittsburgh with a lineup as nutty and fun as his mash ups. The guy has literally been EVERYWHERE since Night Ripper blew up and he became a Pitchfork darling. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson are dancing at his shows. He's been the subject of NPR discussions on the fair use of unlicensed music samples. He's a buzz set at SWSW and Coachella and listed on countless year-end favorite lists for 2006 not to mention a Short List nominee. So tonight is like a homecoming with Lord Grunge, Panda Transport, Discuss, Midnite Snake and Xanopticon. Tonight also marks the release of the local IDM, DJ, Electro, Experimental compilation Circuits of Steel II.

This Pittsburgh Net Radio concert preview mix features an awesome interview with Girl Talk conducted by Luke Ferdinand for an episode of the Digitial Citizens Podcast. In honor of the Circuits of Steel II release I'm also throwing in a 30 minute Xanopticon set from 2003.

Also, don't forget that tonight is the Kinks Katastrophe at the 31st. Street Pub in the Strip. A konsortium of local musicians kover Kinks songs. The lineup includes Human Brains, Weird Paul, Styles For Modern Living, Amoeba Kneival and an assortment of people from various Pittsburgh music projects. So I felt like throwing in some Kinks videos from YouTube.
